“I send you this letter from Dheisheh Refugee Camp, a place that was never a forest, yet it carries within it the memory of hundreds of trees that were uprooted from their land, and the stories of trees that have continued to resist among walls of concrete.”

Letters to the Forest is part of an ongoing series that began with Letters to the Water (2015) and continued with Letters to the Ice (2021) and Letters to the Ice (2023, Iqaluit), inviting people to address water, ice, and trees directly, as living bodies bearing the weight of human violation.
For this iteration, participants were invited to write a letter to a single tree or to the forest as a whole, and to record it in their own voice. The recordings were made available throughout the forest via QR codes installed in the trees, so that anyone moving through could hear human voices speaking directly to the forest.
