“The artist’s critique of everyday life and search for meaning and renewal are what make them early recruits for gentrification” (Ley, 1996).
Created to recall the artists and cultural workers who once inhabited the “10 Ontario” building, the camera lens focuses intently on the creative gestures of former tenants. This work invites a critical, yet poetic, commentary on Montreal’s inner-city “upgrading” process and the changing downtown landscape while considering the labour that contributed to a once-vibrant sense of community.
